What is KYC?

The full form of KYC is – Know Your Customer.

That is, to know your customer in easy language. If you want to know about someone, identify him, then we call him KYC.

Identity proof (identity card) is needed in today’s world to identify. Like – Aadhar card, driving license, PAN card, voter card, etc.

Where is KYC needed?

KYC is required in most banks. If you are opening or closing your account in any bank, then you have to do KYC.

In today’s mobile wallet apps like – Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon, it has become necessary to do KYC in this too, so that you are given better security and you can easily transact money through them.

KYC is also required when investing in Mutual Funds.

Apart from this, KYC may be required in many other places in which identification of people is required, such as for Pension.

What are the requirements for KYC?

KYC requires 2 main things. Identity proof, address proof.

Identity Proof

You can get Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, Driving License, PAN Card for an identity card. You can submit any one of these things.

Address Proof

Aadhar card, voter id, ration card, electricity bill, or bank statement (not older than 3 months). You can submit any one of these things.

If you have an Aadhaar card, then it fulfills the need for both identity proof and address proof.

Note: – A Passport size photo is also required. And take the original with you for verification.

Important things for KYC

The names and addresses you give while doing KYC should match the submitted documents.

If you are not a citizen of India, then for KYC you will have to give Xerox of passport.

If both your permanent address and the present address (correspondence, permanent address) are different, then you will have to provide proof of both.

If Minor wants to do KYC, then for this he can give the school leaving certificate, mark sheet, birth certificate.
